A Bourgogne Blanc that drinks like a Village Puligny-Montrachet

What’s the style?

A lower level of extraction, sulphur and alcohol is noticable in the glass, favouring purity of fruit and expressions of the Chassagne grapes above winemaking style. Vignerons in Burgundy often refer to themselves as custodians of the land, rather than winemakers.  The egotists make wine in their own vein, the best winemakers simply express Burgundy. A smart and expressive example of the wonderful 2018 vintage which will only develop further over the next 10 years.

Thierry Pillot Bourgogne Blanc 2018 | Burgundy, France

What’s the story?

It’s safe to say Paul Pillot’s fourth generation Domaine in Chassagne-Montrachet is in good hands. Thierry Pillot is one to watch. The Bourgogne Blanc and Volnay 1er Cru Santenots is bottled under Thierry’s name, rather than Paul’s. That’s not to say Paul Pillot in anyway lags in quality, his wines are exceptional, synonymising the Pillot name with quality. Thierry started work at the family domaine at the age of 24. Organic but uncertified, Thierry works to ensure strong and healthy vines, so the rest takes care of itself. Purity of fruit and vineyard expression above all.
